The coffee to water ratio describes how much coffee is used compared to the amount of water during brewing. This ratio determines the strength and balance of the final cup.

The Golden Ratio

Many coffee professionals recommend a ratio between 1:15 and 1:18.

Example:

1 gram coffee : 16 grams water

This range produces a balanced cup with good flavor clarity.

Example Brewing Ratios

Pour Over
20 g coffee
320 g water

French Press
30 g coffee
450 g water

Cold Brew Concentrate
1 part coffee
8 parts water

Adjusting Strength

Use more coffee for a stronger cup.
Use less coffee for a lighter cup.
